Our Milk & More Community Heroes

THE MILKMEN WHO GO THE EXTRA MILE

From chasing down runaway dogs to saving lives, going the extra mile is all part and parcel of life as a Milkman. However, heroic deeds deserve a celebration — that's why our milkmen and women are honoured with Community Hero Awards. Find out all about our latest winners.

Jason Bowen the Milkman

Jason Bowen, Erith

Jason was working one cold night when he noticed an elderly man walking alone in the street, disoriented and holding a dustpan and brush. Jason tried to help the man find his way home, but he was too confused. He then drove him to the warmth and safety of the police station, where he stayed with him while the police found his family.

Andrew Pendall, Poole

Andy was driving through torrential rain one cold, windy night when he spotted an elderly woman lying in the road. It was clear she was in grave danger – her hip appeared to be broken and she was drifting in and out of consciousness with only a cardigan to keep her warm. Andy immediately took off his coat to wrap around her, before finding some more uniform in his float to warm her up, and dialled 999. It was a long wait for the ambulance, but Andy stayed by her side to comfort her until they came.

Michael Fielder, Polegate

Michael was shocked when he came across a car crash with an unconscious man still trapped inside. Without wasting a moment, he pulled over his milk float and ran to help. Teaming up with a nearby helper and armed with the jack from his float, they bravely smashed the window to get the door open. Even though the car caught fire during their heroic efforts, they managed to rescue the man and move him to safety by the time emergency services arrived.

Phil Bray, Derby

Phil was out delivering in Ripley when he discovered a young girl barely conscious in the road. Thinking fast, he pulled up next to her with his hazard lights on before calling 999 and then helped keep her warm until rescue came.
