Sumptuous Sides: Our Favourite Christmas Veggie Serving Suggestions

By now you’ve probably picked out your perfect centrepiece, whether it’s one of our famous turkeys from Jimmy’s Farm, or a sweet cured gammon, and it’s time to think about the trimmings. To make sure you’re all set for a show-stopping Christmas dinner, we’ve put together our top serving suggestions to bring out all the goodness and flavour of our wonderfully fresh selection of seasonal veggies.

Roasties

For any Christmas dinner, the roasties need to be just right. Our potatoes are ideal for parboiling, giving a good shake and seasoning with rosemary and sea salt before roasting to create perfect, crispy-skinned, fluffy roast potatoes. We have organic varieties and sweet potatoes to choose from.

Carrots and Parsnips

Roasted rainbow carrots and parsnips make the perfect colourful side dish. Place your vegetables in a roasting tray and drizzle over a little olive oil, salt and pepper and a pinch of cumin seeds for an added pop of spice and crunch.

The Brussels

Take your Brussels sprouts to the next level this Christmas. After parboiling, drain the sprouts and pan fry them with crispy streaky bacon until lightly golden brown. Finish with a generous coating of butter and a sprinkle of sea salt on top.

Red Cabbage

Our friends at the Dairy Diary recommend slow cooking your vibrant red cabbage in treacle, and serving with cooked chestnuts for a delicious side dish that particularly complements a sweet cured gammon. Try out the recipe here.

Chestnuts

When they’re not blessing your red cabbage and Brussels with extra festive flavour, some cooked chestnuts taste wonderful served up on their own with a simple seasoning of brandy, sugar and spice. Check out the Four Seasons Cookbook’s quick and delicious recipe to get started.
